Sylvia Nichols, M.Ed. Early Childhood

5K Lead

Ms. Nichols has been a part of Legacy since the '14-'15 academic year and brings 36 years of experience to her classroom. Ms. Nichols has a background in mathematics, and under her supervision, provided our 1st First Grade class with the necessary building blocks for understanding numbers and their value.

​

She received her B.S. from Livingstone College, M.Ed. from Clemson University and 30+ hours from the University of South Carolina.

Yvonne Littlejohn, Ed.D.

1st Grade Lead

Dr. Littlejohn joined Legacy in 2015 and brings over 35 years of experience to her classroom. Prior to her start at Legacy, Dr. Littlejohn worked with the SC State Department of Education as a Teacher & Curriculum Specialist.

Dr. Littlejohn received her B.A.Ed with a concentration in Early Childhood & Elementary Education from SC State University, M.Ed. from Converse College, 30+ hours from University of South Carolina & Converse and finished with her Ed.D. Education & Administration from SC State.

Thomasena Gooden, M.Ed.

2nd & 3rd Grade Lead

Mrs. Gooden has been a part of Legacy since its start as Vineyard of Angels. With over 30 years of experience in Elementary Education, Mrs. Gooden's students can easily describe her as a no-nonsense teacher who displays her love of Christ and teaching in the classroom daily.

She received her B.A. from SC State University and a M.A. from the University of SC-Upstate.

Cynthia Brewton

Infant-Toddler Co-Lead

For the past 15 years, Ms. Cynthia has tutored, taught, looked after and cared for children in her community and beyond. She first began her teaching career in 2002 as an After-School Program Leader with the Spartanburg Housing Authority working with K-12 students living in the Woodworth Homes apartments. Following her work with SHA, Ms. Cynthia began work with The Promised Land's 21st Century Community Learning Center as an After-School Tutor where she stayed for 4 1/2 years before transitioning to her most recent position at Piedmont Community Action.

When asked why she enjoys her work at Legacy, Ms. Cynthia simply said that [working with] children is her passion; and it is surely evident in the love & care she provides to the Infant-Toddlers in her classroom. 

Angel Myles

Infant-Toddler Co-Lead

Angel's love her for children is evident in the care she provides to the Infants-Toddlers in her classroom. Blessed with unparalleled patience and the ability to win over the crankiest of infants, students in the Infant-Toddler room often want to stay with Angel until closing time and don't want to go home.

​

Angel brings over 12 years of personal and professional experience in childcare to the Legacy team. Her and her husband are the proud parents of Legacy 2K student, Paige.

Theresa Landrum,  

A.S. HHC Administration

2-3K Co-Lead

Theresa has spent most of her life raising, looking after and educating children in her community, as well as her own. When you stop by the 2-3K classroom and see her in action, it won't take long for you to notice her genuine love for children and their development.

 

Theresa received her A.S. in Healthcare Administration from Brown Mackie College and worked in the healthcare field before joining the Legacy team in 2013.

LaTonia Morgan

2-3K Co-Lead

Evangelist Morgan is one the newest additions to the Legacy team and comes to us from the Upper Room Christian Academy and Preschool in Raleigh where she taught for 5 years. She brings 21 years of teaching experience into the 2-3K classroom with her.  When asked why she takes pleasure in her work at the Legacy, Evangelist Morgan answered that she enjoys teaching the basics of education to toddlers & preschoolers and loves being able to share the Word of God with them.

 

Evangelist Morgan attended Fayetteville State before graduating with High Honors from Wilson Technical Community College with an A.A.S. in Early Childhood Honors. She also holds certificates in Elementary School Age and Teacher Associate and is currently a Level 8 Early Care & Education Professional according to the NC Institute for Childhood Development Professionals.

Alex Peters, Sr.

4K Lead

Upon first seeing Deacon Peters' greeting students & parents outside Legacy's front door, it only takes a quick moment to know there is something unusually special about him. And if you step foot inside his classroom or watch him teach a lesson in Chapel, you will see that he is a 'master educator' with a heart for children.

​

Deacon Peters truly has a heart for young people and dedicates any time he can to mentoring youth in his community. He, especially, has a heart towards young men and spends his summers on staff at Promised Land's own Black Boys of Distinction Summer Camp as Program Director & Mentor.

​

Deacon Peters has been a part of the Legacy team for 6 years and has 9 years of experience working with children & youth.

LaSundra Connor, B.S.Ed.

4K First Steps Lead

LaSundra Connor is the newest staff member on the Legacy team and joined us for the '17-'18 academic school year as the 4K First Steps Lead. When asked why she finds joy in her work at Legacy, Ms. Connor answered that she has a true passion to mold young minds and teaches so that she may have a lasting impact on their education. 

 

Ms. Connor is a recent graduate from SC State University where she received her B.S. in Childhood Development. She is a dedicated member of New Day Baptist Church of Spartanburg.

Willie Mae Thacker, B.A.Ed.

4K First Steps Assistant

Ms. Thacker's love for education and compassion for helping those in need can be seen on display in her classroom on a daily basis. Equipped with the skills to teach the mentally handicapped, Ms. Thacker's ability to work with students with diverse needs and capabilities comes in handy in the 4K First Steps classroom, where she assists Ms. LaSundra with readying first-time students for kindergarten and beyond.

​

Ms. Thacker brings over 30 years of experience to Legacy as an educator from Spartanburg County's District 7 Schools and has a B.A. from Benedict College and graduate & advanced studies from Converse College.

Our Support Teaching Faculty & School Staff

LaMaya Harris

Preschool Support Teacher

LaMaya joined the Legacy family in 2016 as the Pre-School Support Teacher. Since joining Legacy, LaMaya has consistently brought a passion for children, a dedication to their needs & a love for educating them to work with her each day. When asked why she enjoys working at Legacy, LaMaya answered that she enjoys working with children and having a hand in watching them grow into the unique persons they will become.

​

LaMaya is a current student at USC-Upstate where she is pursuing a degree in Criminal Justice. After graduation, she hopes to work at a local law firm or courthouse with the intent to attend law school and become a family or business lawyer.

Tiana Timmons

Elementary Afterschool Teacher

Tiana joined the Legacy family in 2016 as the Elementary After-School Teacher. Since her start in the '16-'17 academic school year, Tiana has brought enthusiasm, youthful energy & a love for education with her to the After-School Program each day that can only be matched by our students. When asked why she enjoys her work at Legacy, Tiana answered that this is where she realized that her goal in life is to impact as many young people that she can so that she can see grow & develop into goal-oriented, successful, God-fearing adults.

​

Tiana is a current student USC-Upstate where she is pursuing a degree in High School Education. After graduation, she hopes to continue her education and receive a Masters in Elementary Education and a Doctorate in Administration.

Kayla Tolbert

Preschool Support Teacher

Kayla joined the Legacy family in 2016 as the Pre-School After-School Teacher. Since her start in the '16-'17 academic school year, there has been no shortage of the support Kayla has provided. She is one of our most versatile support teachers on staff and is just as comfortable in the Infant-Toddler Room as she is in full costume as Dr. Seuss' most beloved character, Cat-In-The-Hat. From an early age, Kayla has enjoyed working with infants & young children and believes that God placed her at Legacy and in the lives of her students so that she could help them and in return, they could help her as well.

​

Kayla is a current student as USC-Upstate where she is pursuing her degree in Nursing. After graduation, she plans to become a labor & delivery nurse.
